"Runaway" by Alice Munro- My Review

Alice Munro was a Canadian author famous for her short stories. She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013 and died earlier this year (May of 2024) at the age of 92. "Runaway", written in 2008, is essentially a compilation of short stories about different women, with the theme "runaway" at the center of each story but in different capacities. The women she depicts are often not happy and not living to their full potential because they are either living with domineering men or are looking for love in the wrong places (in the arms of married men, for instance). Munro comes across as a feminist and a supporter of women. I say this because it's been interesting reading this book while simultaneously reading stories in the media that have recently emerged since Munro's death surrounding Munro's second husband. This man has confessed to molesting Munro's youngest daughter (from her first marriage), and Munro's own complicity in this atrocity has now come to light.
