Trenitalia in HO: Sicilian Frecciabianca vs Intercity with E464s locos. Which looks better?

In November 2021, Trenitalia opted to introduce the Frecciabianca brand to Sicily, with a Messina-Catania-Palermo return service each day. The train was usually five coaches, with an E464 at each end, though could be four. On occasions, the service was hauled by one E464. There is also some evidence of the trains running in an 8 coach formation during testing. The locos and coaches were painted in Frecciabianca colours and I have to say looked absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, the reality was not as good as the colour scheme. The service was presented as "high speed" and charged as a premium. It was not high speed- in fact it took about the same time as a Regionale Veloce service to do the same journey. I think the Sicilians felt "fobbed off" by the service and did not use it. It was also unfortunate that the service was introduced at the same time as the new Pop and later Blues units, which the locals really liked. So the Frecciabianca service was suspended in the summer of 2022 due to engineering to double the line from Catania to the west of the island. It never restarted and was cancelled in Oct 2022. The locos were repainted in a hybrid InterCity colour scheme and some were still in this as of summer 2024. Whilst the service didn't work out in reality, both ViTrinas and Lima Expert produced models of the E464 in Frecciabianca. They looked really good- in particular the Lima Expert packaged two powered locos together. I got excited about this and pre-ordered it, but cancelled it because the service no longer ran. However, I spotted the pair of locos available at a "buy one get one free" price, so went ahead in the end. The Lima Expert locos produced were nos 335 and 393. I like the ViTrains E464, but the Lima Expert is a lovely production, with a really nice mechanism. It is also possible to turn off the tail lights on these single ended locos if you don't use DCC. The Vitrains models have lots of additional parts that take ages to install. You get lots of time to bond with your new loco!! My Frecciabianca rake involves a Lima Expert Gran Confort coach, Rivarossi UIC-Z 2nd class, ACME UIC-Z BHR, ACME UIC-Z (ex 1st class) and ACME UIC-Z There are a couple inaccuracies- the rake is similar to real life, with the BHR between 2nd class coaches. However, I accidently picked up my second class, not first class Gran Confort. Also, the BHR should be a Gran Confort based car, not a UIC-Z. The Frecciabinca livery should be the version with the red doors. Also, Lima Expert, Rivarossi and ACME can't decide on the base light grey colour of this livery. That is a shame, as two of the these are the same company!! To compliment this train, I am running a Sicilian 4 car InterCity, with an E464 at each end. Now, these services often use Pilota UIC-Z1a coaches instead of a second loco, but it took some time for these to be certified for use with the E464. Whilst trains to Palermo could work with one loco (there is a turntable at the destination), trains to Siracusa could not. So my train is from Messina to Siracusa! Can I just say, I have taken a ride on one of these an and four car train with 2xE464s goes like stink! My train is hauled by ViTrains E464.343, with 199 at the rear. The latter is the version with buffers and battery fitted. This means it is able to haul the train on and off the Messina train ferry on its own. The rake features a Lima Expert 1st class Gran Confort, Roco DB BPMZ adapted to resemble a UIC-Z BH, a Roco Eurofima and a Lima UIC-Z. These have all been adjusted to non-corridor setup by me and painted in InterCity Sun colours.
