May 15, 1989 - Barely a month after breaking his left hand in a brawl with Chicago's Bill Cartwright, point guard Isiah Thomas led his Detroit Pistons to four-game series sweep over the Milwaukee Bucks in 1989 Eastern Conference Semi-finals. In Game 4, the Bucks suited up just seven players as Terry Cummings, Paul Pressey, Larry Krystowiak, Paul Mokeski, and Rickey Green all sat due to various maladies. Despite their short bench, the Bucks rallied to take a 21-point first half lead before Thomas led the Pistons' slow charge back. Capitalizing on a series of backcuts, Thomas lasered in 13 assists to go with his 17 points and 10 rebounds in a narrow 96-94 victory. The Pistons would go on to eliminate the Chicago Bulls in the conference finals en route to sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers to clinch the first NBA championship in franchise history.
