"It is not possible to create a famine by accident," says Alex de Waal, an expert on the subject who serves as the executive director of the World Peace Foundation at Tufts University. Despite months of international warnings calling on Israel to open up aid channels, de Waal says famine in Gaza is "inevitable" as those warnings have been ignored and Israel's war on Gaza is poised to continue.
