Genres apart, there are four separate category of songs within Elvis’ back catalogue, indeed this is probably the same for any artist with a recording career with any sort of longevity. These songs can be separated into well known, hidden gems, subjective hidden gems and those that should remain hidden forever! “Where Do I Go From Here” probably falls into the third category as it does not immediate strike as a hidden gem in the same vein as “It Hurts Me”, “Anything That’s Part of You”, “I’m Leavin’” or “It’s Only Love”. The song was recorded very late on the evening of the 27 March 1972, in fact so late that it might actually have been the early hours of 28 March! It was the third and final song during the first evening’s recording at RCA’s Studio C in Hollywood. Before tackling this song Elvis had worked through twenty one takes of “Separate Ways” and four takes of “For The Good Times”. Of the three songs recorded that evening, this was the only track that would appear on a regular Elvis album when it appeared on “Elvis” in July 1973. The album would become known as either “Elvis Including Fool” (as stated on the cover) or “The Fool Album”. This was adopted by incorporating the first track in order to distinguish it from the classic album of the same name from October 1956.
