Hi everyone, It's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today we'll be taking a look at how the Yakima FatCat EVO Ski and Snowboard Carrier fits on our 2021 Kia K5. So with this vehicle, I highly recommend getting a roof rack that will work best for you. We are using the Yakima Roof Rack and it's a great pairing with this car. If you wanna carry your skis and snowboard, you don't wanna try putting that in your trunk where all this snow melts and creates a mess, It's a lot better to put it here up top. And with the FatCat EVO features, you have things like locks, as well as height adjustments to get the best fit for your snowboards. Now, I currently have a single snowboard on here and this is gonna be the EVO 4. You can get a longer version, which can carry up to six pairs of skis, this one can carry up to four pairs of snowboards. Look at our bindings here. With the bindings folded up, we have zero contact with our vehicle. That's because at the height it is without using a ski lift, we have it at 6 3/4 inches off the roof. So I'd say that's a really good fit. That's paired with a 32-inch crossbar spread, it allows you to carry snowboards and skis of different lengths. Now, when you wanna get your snowboard or your ski, you need to open this up, so unlock the lock and even with your thick gloves, you can just hit the end of the carrier (carrier popping) and it pops up. So, notice how it's in the upright position. I don't need to do anything. I don't have to hold onto it or anything. I can just reach in there, grab my skis and snowboards, go over the lip and I'm ready to hit the slopes. The perks of this on our K5 is it's a lower sedan so we don't have to reach as far or get into our vehicle. This has rubber padding on the inside, so from the top and to the bottom, this gives you grip as well as cushion for your skis and snowboards, and allows you to use this as a fishing rod holder during the warmer months. When you bring this down, (carrier clipping) you just press down on it, and it's closed. This does have a double jaw joint to accommodate for those thicker bindings on those skis. Notice how aerodynamic it is as well. This is gonna be the Premium Ski & Snowboard Carrier, where it takes up less height above your roof when your skis and snowboards are not on it, and it's more aerodynamic, meaning you have less wind drag and less wind noise when you're on the road. You can also adjust the angle if you need to. This is gonna be good if you have this on other brands of roof racks. We have a flat surface here, so no angle adjustment needed. Now the straps are rubber straps with a metal plate on the inside, so that way, this creates a low profile strap that goes around your crossbar. And with you having the panoramic glass roof, this is good because then you don't have any bolts coming down possibly scratching your roof. That low profile design also means you can put it on the overhang, and then make it easier for you to reach your skis and snowboards, as well as if you wanna stick with this four version, you have space on the other side of your crossbars for other gear like a smaller roof box or a roof basket. All of this works together to create a solid surface for your skis and snowboards. I highly recommend this if you want the best option for you. Now, if you want something that's a little bit more affordable, but still has premium features, definitely check out the Yakima FreshTrack Ski and Snowboard Carrier, that will not be as aerodynamic, but will still give you that solid surface for those snowboards and to make sure that they are locked and loaded before you head off and hit the road.
