I’ll Knit If I Want To: Episode 190

Please enjoy 50% off of all of my independently published patterns with the discount code MICHIGANDER thru Friday, October 25, 2024 at midnight EST!! Please Note: You will want to make sure to enter the discount code before completing your purchase, as it cannot be added retroactively. You will want to type it yourself, using all caps - as copy & pasting it can inadvertently lead to placing an unwanted space before or after the code, rendering it unable to work. Sales cannot be extended past the end date. Only independently published patterns can be included in the sale. Patterns such as Ronan, which were published with a 3rd party cannot be included. Welcome to I’ll Knit (& Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions! Sign up for my newsletter here: Sign up for the DRK Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/diPxsr In this week’s episode we cover: 1. I am knitting a top down turtleneck which began with 9" of 2x2 rib before going into a simple raglan body. I am 1/2 way through the body and have tried it on but am concerned that the neck will be too high. Can I just unpick the cast on edge (tubular), frog to the height I want and then cast off? Would that work? I love everything else about the sweater and would like to keep it as it is apart from this. Secondly, do you have any recommendations for places to go to get answers to knitting questions? I am a lone knitter, without a local store so there is no-one I can ask in person. Your podcasts have been the best source of information so far but if I want to ask a specific question and get an answer where can I go? Googling doesn't always work. Do you have any books you recommend? Would you recommend joining patreon? Or something else? Many Thanks for considering my question. 2. Hi Andrea! I really love listening to your videos weekly and I have learned so much from you over the last year. It has really upped my knitting game! My question is about washing/blocking alpaca yarn. I knitted a Brume (my favorite sweater ever!! I plan to knit more in a variety of colors) out of Oh Dang! DK. However, when I blocked it, one side of it was totally flattened and not fluffy! Such a bummer. Any thoughts about how to avoid this for the next time I wash my sweater. Thanks so much! 3. I just finished your new “Night and Day” cowl. It was such a fun knit! My problem is that my I-cord bind off edge is rolling. I soaked and blocked with pins. I even seamed it up hoping that would help how it lay. I’m not sure if I bound off too tight, too loose or maybe my yarn choice that is causing the roll. I used Berroco vintage dk as I need an easy care/wear yarn for my lovely and very busy Sister. Any suggestions? I’m 100% casting another one on. 4. I understand the importance of knitting a swatch but I really don’t like knitting a swatch in the round. Will a swatch knit flat in combination knit be equivalent to a swatch knit in the round? (And, welcome back to Michigan!) Thanks 5 . A lot of time when I knit sweaters the chest area fits really well. Things start changing the closer I get to the waist. The back seems too short compared to the front. It also feels like the bottom circumference is way too big and just sticks out at the back with a huge gap. It just doesn’t hang well. The front looks fine.
