Running is HORIZONTAL force rather than Vertical force as a training priority.

As a runner, my primary focus should be on producing horizontal force to power my gait cycle action. When we run, we never ever think about producing vertical force, and no matter how we may try we can’t avoid it, as it’s a direct result of the horizontal force due to the levers of the ankle and hip. Working to be better at producing vertical force does NOT get us to the finish line faster and actually makers our gait inefficient and uneconomical. I sometimes ask the question “how many squats does it take to run a marathon?” To get the point across. The reason being that vertical force gets us absolutely nowhere without horizontal force production yet horizontal force production gets us the vertical oscillation we want and need and minimizes it to only what we need. That is why horizontal force production is what created a longer stride yet without over striding!
