3 Step Natural Window Light Setup using a V-Flat - Super Easy!

You may know me as someone who routinely reaches for their studio strobes for portraits, but I also love to work with natural light too! There's a ton you can do to shape and sculpt with a natural light and today that's what I'm going to show you with this gorgeous portrait lit with window light and a v-flat. Normally when I do window-lit portraits I will pose my subject facing the window to get a big broad flat light, but today I'm going to use it to emulate 2 light sources. One to give a bit of light on the hair, and the other bouncing off of the v-flat to create a very soft light on the model. Ingredients for this look: 1. A window with in-direct light. We don't want sun pouring in directly, so a cloudy day or a time of the day when there is less direct light coming in. 2. A backdrop. Here I used a gravity backdrop for a bit more interest, and it helped to also block some of the light. 3. A white v-flat, or some sort of surface to bounce the light. Additional options could include a bed sheet, wall, piece of foam core etc. While I call this a "complex" lighting setup because I mimics multiple lights, it's fairly easy to execute. During this shoot I used the Canon EOS R5 and 50mm 1.2 which helped me to get some shots of the model close up and a bit wider of her dress as well. What's neat about this combo is that with the electronic viewfinder on the R5 which has exposure simulation to help me visualize the end result, pretty helpful. 👇 Drop a comment below if you prefer using natural light or studio lit portraits and if you think this is a setup you'd like to try! ------------Camera Settings---------- 1/125th of a second F.18 ISO 1250 -------------------------------------------------- 📸 Gear Used: ✅ Canon EOS R5: https://adorama.rfvk.net/JxzdE ✅ Canon RF 50mm 1.2: https://adorama.rfvk.net/g2gJg ✅ V-flat world V-flat: https://adorama.rfvk.net/djdBq 🔥 For more creative shoot ideas check out my Creative Natural Light Guide: https://lindsayadler.photo/natural-li... 🔥 Also check out my Hard Light Recipe Guide if you're interested in using hard light sources to create interesting shadows and effects in your portraits: https://lindsayadler.photo/hard-light... ---- 👉 Portfolio: http://lindsayadlerphotography.com 👉 Instagram:   / lindsayadler_photo   👉 Facebook:   / lindsayadlerphotography   👉 Twitter:   / lindsayadler   👉 Education: http://learn.lindsayadlerphotography.com Some of the links in this description contain affiliate links to partners.
