Beer is also one of the oldest production drinks , going back almost 5000 years! There are tons of different beers to choose from. Stout, Pilsner, Porter, IPA, but there’s one thing they all have in common! They are all a Lager or an Ale! So what’s the difference between the two? A lot of people think the flavor, color, or even alcohol content is what separates them, but there’s actually only two key factors that makes a beer a Lager or an Ale. 1. The fermentation process. (when malt grains are broken down and turned into alcohol.) 2. Yeast used for brewing. Lager uses bottom fermenting yeast and cold temperatures, between 30-50 degrees F. This makes the aging process longer, between 6-8 weeks. This process is going to give the beer a more crisp, hydrating taste with a thinner consistency. Ale uses top fermenting yeast at warm temperatures between 60-70 Degrees F. This makes it a quicker aging process between 3-5 weeks . That’s going to give the beer a richer full flavor and a thicker consistency. So whats the conclusion?! There two different types of beers! If you like a lighter more mellow taste go for a Lager. Some Lagers include: Heineken , Dos Equis, and Bud Light. If you want something with a fuller flavor, that has more character go for an Ale.Some Ales include: IPA, Imperial Stout, and Squatters.
