Rob Liefeld burst onto the scene in 1988 with his highly acclaimed, if somewhat infamous, work on Hawk and Dove. Before the end of 1989 however, Liefeld would already be working his way up the ranks of Marvel Comics and on his way to being arguably, the first superstar artist. Introducing the incredibly popular Deadpool in the pages of New Mutants 98 in 1991 Liefeld instantly recognized how much potential revenue he had lost by "giving" the character to Marvel. They owned Deadpool lock, stock, and barrel and there wasn't a thing that Rob Liefeld could do about it... except for strike out, create an imprint and put out his own book. One where he would retain all the rights. That book is the cornerstone of Image Comics. Ground zero if you will. But I almost guarantee it's not the book you're thinking of... because this book never even came out although it was solicited and this, well solicited a reaction from Marvel - and not the one Liefeld was hoping for. Join me as we uncover the mystery of the banned comic that started the embers of what would become a full fledged revolution in a matter of months. As always thanks for watching, please like, comment, share and subscribe!
