It is one of the world’s most unique destinations, combining urban regeneration and innovation with heritage, culture and exhilarating activity. On Tuesday 22 February 2011 Christchurch was badly damaged by a magnitude 6.3 earthquake, which killed 185 people and injured several thousand. Many heritage buildings were heavily damaged, over a quarter of the buildings in the central business district were demolished. Christchurch rebuild is still working in progress and aiming to develop Christchurch into an innovative and modern community.
