South Wales Metro | 398 Tram-Trains' first test runs

The very first test runs of Class 398 Tram-Trains which will form the backbone of the South Wales Metro and transport passengers from Treherbert, Aberdare & Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay via both Llandaf and the "City Line" route though Fairwater, with future "metro" extensions seeing the units trundle on street as trams though Callaghan Square and a redeveloped Cardiff Bay before making their way to Newport Road. Here we see the units at the dawn of their test campaign, first just moving under battery power and then testing under 25kv overhead for the first time, in July.
