PART 1 • The Making of a Bell Tent ~ Part 1 (... PART 2 • The Making of a Bell Tent Part 2 ~ Se... I wanted to see how many metal (and free) alternative supplies I could use, so I was delighted to find that bamboo is an option (acquired by asking around) as a center pole, and that some reenactment tents use leather instead of metal grommets. I think it looks nicer. The triangular ones are a thinner leather for the door closures, which is also a historical method, rather than having a zipper. (This will be shown more in a further video). For the top piece, I am unsure how sturdy it will be. I have a hunch it should have been more layers of canvas, although hand sewing it took a long time already. Later I may need to reinforce it, replace it, or switch the design to a metal ring bearing the weight with a cap. It's not a very heavy tent so I'm not sure, but we'll see. The nice thing about having made this myself, is that I will be more comfortable repairing and making changes.
