We throw the term "dual sport" around a lot, but what, exactly, does it mean? What IS dual sport? What makes a motorcycle a dual sport bike? What does it mean to ride dual sport? What is the community of dual sport riders all about? In this vid, we'll explore exactly what a dual sport motorcycle is and what it means to be a part of the dual sport community. Beyond that, though, we'll talk through what it feels like to be part of this amazing community of off road motorcycle enthusiasts. What is dual sport motorcycle? Dual sport motorcycles are typically street-legal motorcycles that also have some off road riding capability. They range from barely off road capable but super comfortable on the road to barely street legal but insanely capable off the pavement. There are tons of models of dual sport motorcycle out there, and basically any bike that is street legal but can go off road can be considered a dual sport bike. Dual sport pricing ranges from pretty cheap to kinda expensive, with good used bikes falling in the 3-5 grand range and super capable new ones topping $10000. Dual sports are more reliable than dirt bikes, but have less power and are heavier. They also typically require less maintenance. Dual sport motorcyclists love to customize add dual sport mods to their bikes. Dual sports are insanely versatile, and with the right mods can fill any role, from daily commuter to lightweight black diamond trail domination. Like a swiss army knife, a dual sport is a tool that is useful in a lot of situations, but it doesn’t really excel at any of them. The trade off for all this varied capability is it doesn’t do any one thing as well as a bike designed for that thing specifically. Dual sport is more than a motorcycle. Dual sport is a community. Dual sport (for the most part) is a welcoming, supportive fraternity of riders at all skill levels, typically ready to lend advice, recommendations, a hand to help lift your bike after a drop, and a generous helping of good-natured ribbing throughout. For the most part, we want to explore and have a good time, with the occasional burst of adrenaline along the way. Dual sport is a calling. Dual sport is a fire that burns in your soul, demanding you find out what lies at the end of that abandoned, overgrown logging road. It’s a siren call pulling you forward, an itch that can only be scratched by exploration and discovery.
