Sorabji: "IV. Fantasia" from Opus Clavicembalisticum (Eric Xi Xin Liang)

Recorded on April 16th, 2022 at Conrad Grebel University College Chapel (part of the University of Waterloo). Learned and refined in approximately 27 hours. Use headphones. This is the third movement I've recorded from Opus Clavicembalisticum (OC) so far, and it is by far my favourite. A bit whimsical, somewhat playful, stably energetic, but ultimately chaotic and cataclysmic. I've put a lot of personality and completely original stylization into this and, to be fully honest, when I was playing around with how this could sound and found something that worked so soon, I was delighted and really excited by it: the fact that I was able to carve out something almost completely different from existing recordings and make it coherent. In fact, this recording of this movement sounds so musically accessible and ordinary that when I was practising this, on several accounts, people in the building I practice in told me that it was already so fascinating to listen to, which was a great sign. I hope this continues to paint a new perspective on the stigmatism of Sorabji's works and also OC. It all might just need a bit reworking and additional care. Also, Ogdon not doing that much help with all the key spamming he does :P Also, again, I say probably for the 50th time, consider this like chapter 60 of a book. Chapter 1 is music that is similar in style and complexity with Rachmaninoff's that I started off with 2 years ago, so if you're not one to poorly opinionate music out of ignorance and closed-mindedness, please read (listen) to all preceding chapters. Read the description of this video (   • Kaikhosru Sorabji: Gulistān (Eric Xi ...  ) where I explain how I got to the point of playing OC. And, yes, I'm wearing a mask while playing this. What of it? It's in vogue and I like challenges, similar to difficulty modifiers in video games (i.e. 1.2x: harder to breathe). All other movements of OC I've recorded:    • Kaikhosru Sorabji: Opus Clavicembalis...   At time of recording, Eric is a 4th year Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo soon to graduate. About this actually, this might be the last OC recording I'll be doing for a while, since I have no more time left at university to learn anything more. As well, I'll be travelling the month of May 2022, so I might only post 1 more thing from home and then silence for a month. I genuinely need a break =.= #sorabji #piano #music
