岡山市の南東部に位置する西大寺は、かつて吉井川の重要な交通拠点で、西大寺観音院の門前町としてもにぎわった街です。 「五福通り（ごふくどおり）」は、西大寺観音院の北に位置する商店街で、今ではめずらしい看板建築の商家が建ち並び、レトロな雰囲気を醸し出し、多くの映画やドラマのロケ地としても使われてきました。 近くの河川港は、江戸時代、大阪と備前、県北部の美作を繋ぐ物資集積地となり、多くの高瀬舟が行き来していたようです。 灌漑用水路の西川は、蛍も生息していたほど水が綺麗で、明治、大正、昭和の、さまざまな時代に架けられた橋の照明灯、親柱、欄干には時代ごとのデザインが見られ、川沿いには昔ながらの懐かしい感じの風景が続きます。 レトロな建物、昔の河川港、様々なデザインの橋、心和む街並みをお楽しみ下さい。 Located in the southeastern part of Okayama City, Saidaiji used to be an important transportation hub along the Yoshii-gawa River and a bustling town in front of the Saidaiji Kannon-in Temple. Gofuku Street is a shopping street located north of Saidaiji Kannon-in Temple, lined with merchant houses built with signboards, which is rare nowadays, creating a retro atmosphere that has been used as a filming location for many movies and TV dramas. The nearby river port was a goods depot during the Edo period, connecting Osaka, Bizen, and Mimasaka in the northern part of the prefecture, and many takase-boats used to come and go. The Nishigawa River, an irrigation canal, has such clean water that fireflies used to inhabit it. The lighting lights, main pillars, and parapets of bridges built in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras show designs of each era, and the riverbanks continue to be a nostalgic scene from the past.
