This video was made by Henri Pereira, co-founder of Myaquaponics, South Africa's leading Aquaponics (and soon Sandponics) company. Sandponics offers so many benefits over Aquaponics, including less electricty required, less water and the possibility to grow almost any plant including fruit trees and root based vegetables such as carrots, onions and garlic. This is Part 3 of our adventure into Sandponics Day 3 of our new Sandponics system was one full of surprises and challenges that we eventually overcame. Some may not be exactly as it should be, but slowly we learn through our experiences. One Big lesson, is not to form the Ridges and Furrows on the sand, until after its been fully soaked with water and settled, free from air pockets. We were however to eager to play with sand and form our perfect ridges and furrows :) Don't waste your time, first soak the sand with water, let it settle, then form the ridges and furrows. In the end, the grow beds filled up and drained almost exactly to plan, with a 30 minute flood cycle and a 90 minute drain cycle, controlled by a digital timer. Water pumps as per programmed periods in the timer, from 7 am to 7 pm. The water pump does not operate at night. The air pump is on 24/7 In the video I keep repeating about the small fish tank (my biggest regret in this project). For a system that size we should have used a 2000 or 3000 litre fish tank.
