20 years on from it's inital airing, writer Russell T Davies, producer Nicola Shindler and guests drag queen Courtney Act and journalist Owen Jones discuss the impact the show had on the LGBT+ fight for equality. It was the show that broke the mould. It was 1999 and Channel 4 broadcast the story of three gay men living in Manchester, and things were never the same again. GAY unapologetically meant Good As You. In a masterclass hosted by the inimitable Sue Perkins, multi-award-winning writer Russell T Davies, and founder of Red Production Company and CEO of StudioCanal UK, Nicola Shindler, will discuss their collaboration on Queer as Folk; the genesis of the show; what it meant to them; and the worldwide impact the series had. The panel will consider how, and more importantly, if, the television landscape has changed in terms of LGBTQ+ representation over the last two decades and how an unassuming eight-part drama became a global phenomenon. Completing the panel is Drag Race alum and Celebrity Big Brother winner Courtney Act; and author, political journalist, and equality activist, Owen Jones. Session Producer: Sohail Shah, Non Exec Director, Elstree Studios & Former BBC Entertainment Commissioner Find out more here: https://bit.ly/1SiJFQb #EdTVFest #QueerAsFolk #CourtneyAct #RussellTDavies #NicolaShindler #OwenJones
