To understand the different types of seismic wave (Body , Surface) that propagate through the ground away from a seismic, source, some elementary concepts of stress and strain, elastic modulas are discussed pictorially. The elementary particle motion in body (compressional and shear wave) and surface waves is also shown in detail for combined UPSC Geoscientist exam. The details of Reflection from single horizontal interface , Geometry of reflected ray path, Snells Law, travel time formulas and curves for reflected, critically refracted , direct waves are given in detail in this lecture.
