Ingredients Marinade -          1 tbsp soy sauce -          1 tsp hoisen sauce -          2 tsp sesame oil -          1 tsp cornstarch -          1 tbsp water -          1 tsp brown sugar -          ¼ tsp baking soda -          1 tsp peanut butter (or almond butter or cashew butter) -          ¼ lb sirloin steak, thinly sliced -          2 cloves garlic, minced -          1 small piece of ginger, minced -          1/8 tsp red chili flakes -          ½ onion, sliced -          1 carrot, thinly sliced -          1 stalk green onion, roughly chopped -          Toasted sesame seeds for garnishing Instructions: 1. Start by thinly slicing ¼ lb of sirloin steak into ¼ inch slices. Mince 2 cloves of garlic and 1 small piece of ginger. Slice ½ a small onion and roughly chop 1 stalk of green onion. Thinly slice 1 carrot. 2. Make the marinade. In the large metal bowl, stir together 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of hoisin sauce, 2 tsp of sesame oil, 1 tsp of cornstarch, 1 tablespoon of water, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, ¼ teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of a nut butter. Stir in the beef, the carrot, the onion, the garlic, the ginger and 1/8 teaspoon of red chili flakes. Let this sit for at least 4 hours or overnight.  The longer this marinates, the better the flavour. 3. In the small metal bowl, add in 1 single portion of rice. For us, that would be 80 ml of uncooked rice, which is two cups of the little cup that comes with the itaki pro. Next, wash your rice 3 times.  You’ll do this by adding a good amount of water to your rice, sriwling the rice around with your fingers and pouring out the water.  Repeat this process another two times. Finally, add an equal amount of water as your rice to your rice.  For our 80 ml of rice, we’re going to be adding 80 ml of water. 4. Close of the itaki pro, and put everything in the fridge for later.  Ok, so it’s lunch time. Let’s cook! 5. Open up the itaki pro. Add 2 cups of water to the heating plate of the itaki pro and then place the metal bowls on top of the heating plate. Close up the itaki pro, plug in the unit and push the button. 30-40 minutes later, come back and your lunch is done cooking! Garnish with green onion and toasted sesame seeds, and enjoy it with your steamed rice and pour some sauce over your rice for additional flavour!
