This week on 'Resilience: Historic Houses of Indian and Their Custodians', the Centre of Historic Houses at The Jindal Global University brings to you The Château Kapurthala Mussoorie, introduced to us by Brigadier His Highness Sukhjit Singh of Kapurthala & Cynthia Meera Frederick. Brigadier H.H. Sukhjit Singh: Brigadier H.H. Sukhjit Singh is the ninth titular Maharaja of Kapurthala. Educated at the Doon School, he went on to attend the Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun. He was commissioned into the Armoured Corps, the Scinde Horse Regiment of the Indian Army and is also an honorary member of the fabled Sikh Regiment. He was awarded the MahaVir Chakra for his gallantry whilst commanding the Scinde Horse during the 1971 Indo–Pakistan conflict. He rose to the rank of Brigadier and upon retirement, has been active in a number of philanthropic and charitable endeavours associated with education, religion, social welfare, heritage preservation, environmental issues and in the rehabilitation and welfare of retired military personnel. Cynthia Meera Frederick: Cynthia Meera Frederick recently wrote Prince, Patron and Patriarch - Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala ( Roli Books 2019) co- authored with Brigadier H.H. Sukhjit Singh. This is an illustrated biography chronicling the life and times of the last ruler of the Indian princely state of Kapurthala. She conceptualized this book while working with the Kapurthala Family to preserve their archives and document other historic material. She contributes articles and lectures widely on subjects pertaining to Indian royalty and has provided historical content for film productions and documentaries including Punjab the Land of Five Rives (Pendjab, le Pays des Cinq Rivières):France TV5, Munich in India: Konzept-und-dialog Germany, and A Punjab Baisakhi Special: FYTV 18 India. American born and of Indian origin, she grew up around Boston and is now domiciled in India.
