🟠 For S03E07, Nikki Robinson walks us through the art of incident remediation: Ensuring that an ongoing threat is eradicated, the situation has calmed down and that things are working again as they should after things went “boom”. Nikki is fascinated by and focusses on the human factors: Blending psychology, engineering and design while working on remediation actions during incident response. Using her extensive experience as an Administrative Assistant, a Security Engineer, and now a Security Architect and Inventor, her approach to remediation revolves around mostly around prioritisation: “What are my risks, what are my biggest risks, and what do we need to focus on ✨right✨ now?”. She walks us through how the complexity of an environment plays a role when remediating, that empathy is a big asset when doing so - as well as having a whole rollback plan readily available for when things potentially go wrong. Other topics discussed are the role of machine learning, the need for more updated guidance on remediation due to the increase of modern and complex environments, and a slight tease on her journey towards becoming an inventor.
