You can us granular Fertilizer or use kitchen scraps. They all work great and the kitchen scraps bring in the worms. The worms make free worm castings which is great for the trees and your pocket. when applying the Fertilizer make sure to keep it away from the trunk of the tree. We do not want to encourage trunk rot. It is also important to scratch the Fertilizer in so it can break down. Mulching thr tree is important for many reasons but it also feeds the tree once it starts to break down.
