Cycling clubs are popular worldwide, but Nicole Sutton from the Columbus Metropolitan Library reveals that the first one originated named in honor of a Black cyclist started right here in Columbus. Marshal Major Taylor, an accomplished Black cyclist from Indianapolis, was the world champion in 1899. His remarkable achievements inspired others to name their clubs in his honor. Today, the Major Taylor International Alliance continues his legacy, hosting annual conferences that unite the global cycling community.
