When we fail to trust God’s Word, we end up making terrible decisions with tragic outcomes. A faithless perspective always results in sinful actions. This is clearly seen in the life of Jacob, the son of Isaac to whom God had promised all of the blessings of Abraham. Jacob and his mother Rebekah did not trust God’s Word in the moment, and instead needlessly resorted to trickery and deception in order to gain a blessing God had already promised to him. In Genesis 27:1-40, we read the tragic account of Jacob deceiving his father Isaac, with the help of his mother Rebekah. Jacob lies to his own father, and even invokes the name of the Lord in order to blasphemously support his deception. The fallout of the event left the family in shambles, as Esau vowed to murder Isaac in cold blood.
