A review of 'Training for the Uphill Athlete' by Steve House, Scott Johnston, and Kilian Jornet. While this book is targeted at mountain-ultra-trail runners and ski mountaineers, many of the principles that are outlined in the first half are widely applicable to runners training for all types of events. There is a deep dive into the physiology of endurance, the methodologies of endurance training, the importance of strength for uphill athletes, and finally a section on 'how to train'. This is a great resource for any runner or ski mountaineer looking to be more intentional about their training. Sprinkled with stories from great athletes throughout the book, it doesn't read like a textbook (as many running books do). I give this book a 10 out of 10 and highly recommend for any runner who wants to take their training to the next level.
