In this pretty video Im going to show how to graft brinjal plant on turkey berry plant .In Tamil the turkey berry is called sundakai, in telugu it's called Usthikai, in kanada it's called kundhene kai, in hindi it’s called bahankatiya. The plant which you're seeing in this video is turkey berry plant im going to graft this turkey berry plant with a brinjal plant for that I'm going to select a healthy scion from a healthy brinjal plant. Now I'm going to select Scion from this brinjal plant. I select this branch as Scion because it's having similar width with the roostock. If the roostock and scion are in same width the cambium layer will be easily matched. I'm going to clip this branch .Now you can see the brinjal fruit in the Scion which i selected i Will clip all the leaves and fruits in the Scion before Grafting. Don't damage these buds while clipping off the leaves. Now I'm cutting the rootstock plant at a point where it having similar width with the Scion. Here i insert the Scion into the rootstock plant with the help of cleft grafting. For grafting younger plants cleft grafting and whip and tounge grafting will do better but here im following cleft grafting. In cleft grafting give two flat cuts at the base on both sides of the Scion. The two flat cuts must be in same length. And the scion is ready now I'm making the cleft on Rootstock observe how im making .Hold the knife with your thumb like this the cleft length on the rootstock and the flat cut length on the Scion must be same.i made the cleft and now I'm going to insert the Scion into the rootstock here the rootstock and scion are in same width so that the cambium layer will be matched there is no doubt in that . Insert the Scion into the rootstock upto its flat cut length after inserting tie the grafting area with polythene strip tightly it enables the cambium layer hold tightly. Now i had finished making the graft a month ago i have made the similar graft to the another branch of this turkey berry plant now I'm going to open the grafted area for you. Here the cambium layer is regenerated and the Scion is get fixed with the rootstock. Moreover this also the similar graft i made a month ago i covered the Scion with polythene bag the polythene bag will protect the Scion drying from sun also it enables the buds sprout soon. Now I'm going to reveal the benefits you get when you graft brinjal plant on turkey berry plant. When you graft brinjal plant on turkey berry plant it will become a tree and survive upto 5 years whereas the normal brinjal plant will survive for only one year . The grafted brinjal plant will give 5 to 6 kgs of fruits whereas the normal brinjal plant will give only 2 to 3 kgs of fruits Also the grafted brinjal plant will show Resistant to disease and pest.
