Left turns at intersections are more dangerous than right turns because you are crossing lanes of oncoming traffic. Before making a left turn, enter the proper lane well before the intersection and put your signal on. When you approach the turn, check for signs that may prohibit or restrict turns to ensure you can turn legally. Before you enter the intersection, check for pedestrians and oncoming traffic. If it’s safe, position your vehicle just before the centre of the intersection. Stay in your lane and keep your wheels straight as it prevents you from being pushed into oncoming traffic if you are rear-ended. When two vehicles travelling in opposite directions want to turn left at an intersection, both vehicles should be positioned passenger door to passenger door while waiting to turn. Wait until the intersection is clear before you make your turn. If you are established in the intersection and the light changes to amber or red, wait for oncoming traffic to come to a complete stop before making your turn.
