#clay #f1championship #f1history #f1legends Imagine a born racer, placed in the theatre of World War II, amidst controversy, triumph, and tragedy—which powered Clay Regazzoni to shock the world with F1 and surge above the darkest shadows that ended his career? While the whole world was in a frantic mood over the few days since the outbreak of the Second World War, another racing legend was born by the name of Gianclaudio "Clay" Regazzoni on September 5, 1939. His childhood in idyllic, tough Porza—deep inside the ItalianSpeaking Canton of Ticino in Switzerland—would have rustic charm but be cloaked by the sweeping shadows of global conflict. Who knew that a small boy from picturesque Swiss canton would one day electrify the F1 world? From a humble start at 24 years old, Regazzoni had finally made his way through Formula Three and, ultimately, into Formula Two. It was in the domain approach of Formula Two that Regazzoni found a perfect partner in Tecno, where his fearless, hard-charging style seemed to fit perfectly with Tecno's ambitious forward-looking approach. Before long, Regazzoni had become a tough competitor, a force to be reckoned with on the track. But every hero's journey is marked by trials and controversies. In 1968, during the Formula Two Dutch Grand Prix, Regazzoni was implicated in a tragic incident that claimed the life of young British driver Chris Lambert. It was actually an exceptionally hard race where Regazzoni was running well up the field, only for Lambert's Brabham suddenly to lose control and crash into a bridge, killing him.
