This is a quick guide on how I set up and layer sequences and rhythms in my synthesizer improvisations. I run the Behringer Deepmind 12 polysynth as the "clock leader" via midi. That next runs into a Behringer Crave semi-modular monosynth sequencer, then an Arturia DrumBrute Impact drum machine. After that, the midi chain goes into 2 Boss Loop Station pedals (more on this soon). I have a Behringer CAT duophonic synthesizer which I mostly use for leads. It is surreal to own one as I have a semi-operational CAT by Octave that my father has let me use for many years. Having that around all the time helped me learn about synthesizers! The CAT runs into an MXR A/B switch. The A output goes into a Boss Stereo delay for my usual leads and the B output goes into one of the loop pedals. I use that loop pedal for bass lines with the CAT. I have a Hohner Pianet which is an electric piano from the late 60s (I Am The Walrus, The Musical Box, Louie Louie). Somewhat Wurlitzer-like in tone, I run it clean as well as through a Boss Distortion pedal (a fuzz would be great here). On top of that are 2 midi keyboards screwed together and painted white which I run via USB (along with the Deepmind 12) to my laptop where I use the Arturia Collection software. I have 2 Behringer 4 channel stereo amps. One amp has the CAT lead, Hohner Pianet, and Arturia Collection running into it. The other amp has the Deepmind 12, Crave, DrumBrute Impact, and both loop pedals running into it. The other loop pedal is the output of the first amp so I can loop the CAT leads, Hohner Pianet, and Arturia Collection. The other amp essentially has anything that will be sequenced. I hope to one day get some of my older gear back to better shape - that would include a Farfisa Compact Duo organ, a CAT by Octave duophonic synthesizer, an ARP Pro-DGX (orange/black), RMI Electra Piano 300 (yes I love Genesis), Mattel Optigan (I did a bad chop job on it years ago like an idiot). I have a Fender Rhodes 88 key as well in decent shape, but a bit unwieldy in the apartment for now. The keyboard studio is the dining room after all lol. Thank you all for watching and much love! @behringer @ArturiaOfficial Bio: Tackless is the music of John Piatkowski, a composer and keyboardist from New Jersey, USA.
