CONTROL vs. FREEDOM There is a great big dance of polarities in the atmosphere during this powerful time of transformation – especially between the polarities of freedom and oppression (control). Freedom is the nature of life (and our true selves) – the desire to evolve and express ourselves as unique manifestations of Creation. This wild, untamable life force of freedom is powerful. For thousands of years the patriarchy has been systematically attempting to subdue and control this force in various ways. In these times, this power play is very evident in the world around us. And this dynamic very much mirrors what is present within each of us as well. As I continue my self-study and trauma healing, doing my daily spiritual practices and peeling off layers of programming and dogma I recognize that I am becoming increasingly more present in my body and more “awake” and conscious of my inner and outer worlds. This awareness and my practices are helping me discover and cultivate greater levels of freedom within. Traumatized parts of me keep showing up, but with the increased awareness and presence it is easier to recognize these parts in action. As I learn to give these parts the attention, compassion and nurture that they are seeking, they begin to let go of their fear-based grip of control. As the inner adult in me holds space for these fearful and vulnerable parts and they relax, I am able to tap into the higher wisdom (the guidance of the soul) within, and to make choices that are more aligned with the higher good. As I make guided choices take appropriate action, I apply my free will and feel greater freedom and safety. As I feel greater inner peace and freedom, I am recognizing that my relationship with the outer world is also becoming more harmonious. The threats of the divided, warring world no longer trigger me as they did before. Although the outside world may still be “potentially threatening”, my inner sense of safety and freedom allows me to have the courage to witness ‘that which is’ from a more neutral place, with curiosity and acceptance rather than from a defensive need to try to fix, manage or control what is happening. Still practicing this! I am learning to feel compassion for it all rather than getting attached and addicted to the drama. And as energy is liberated from worrying and controlling, I am able to focus my energy more directly on my own soul evolution and service in a whole new way – from a more unconditional space. This song, Farol da Alegria (Beacon of Joy) by Flavio Passos came into my life about 1.5 years ago bringing much needed guidance and focus to my own path. There are many deep and wise teachings in this powerful prayer. I share this prayer now to offer much needed medicine to our collective field – to help us remember our sovereignty, to realize that we are the captains of our vessels that move through these times of turbulent evolution, to remember our free will and its power and to encourage us to cultivate gratitude, which is the purest fuel for our service.
