Chevy Malibu Takes GSP On High Speed Chase Through Troup County

On 08-09-2022, I, TPR Grant, was running stationary RADAR on Interstate 185 Northbound at mile marker 44 when I observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Pursuit: I activated my patrol vehicle's RADAR and confirmed that the vehicle was traveling 88 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. Iactivated my patrol vehicle's emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop [on the vehicle (2012 Chevrolet Malibu, TX tag MKZ2149). The vehicle was traveling North in the left lane of I-185 and when I attempted to conduct the traffic stop, the suspect vehicle accelerated and initiated a pursuit. I attempted to notify Troop D Communications that I was actively involved in a vehicle pursuit. Due to radio issues Troop D Radio Operators did not acknowledge the beginning of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle fled North on I-185 and exited onto Upper Big Springs Road. The suspect vehicle attempted to turn right to travel East and ran off of the North shoulder of the roadway. The suspect was able to regain control of the vehicle and continued East on Upper Big Springs Road. The suspect turned abruptly onto Knot Road and the pursuit continued eastbound. The suspect vehicle drove into oncoming traffic several times causing multiple vehicles to drive off of the roadway.The suspect vehicle continued to flee North onto Thrash Road. As I was beginning an approach for a PIT maneuver, the suspect vehicle slowed down and the rear passenger exited the vehicle. The suspect vehicle continued East on Thrash Road. Near the intersection of Thrash Road and Cedar Point Road, the suspect slowed to a stop and two rear passengers exited the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then fled again. I positioned the passenger side of my patrol vehicle on the rear driver side of the suspect vehicle and performed a PIT maneuver. The PIT was unsuccessful and the subject was able to regain control of the vehicle in the West shoulder of the roadway and continue North. As the suspect vehicle fled, the suspect slowed to a brief stop and the front passenger jumped out of the front passenger door. I set up a second time for a PIT and the suspect saw a Troup County Deputy vehicle approaching ti from the front. The suspect then slammed on his brakes and abruptly stopped. After the suspect vehicle came to a stop, my patrol vehicle made contact with the rear right of the suspect vehicle. Use of Force: Following the final contact with the suspect vehicle, the driver (Roddrick Lee) exited the driver's side of the vehicle. I unholstered my department issued Glock 45 and aimed it at Mr. Lee while giving him commands. M.r Lee complied with the commands and was taken into custody without further incident. Vehicle Search: The vehicle was searched following the pursuit. There was a strong odor o f coming from inside of the vehicle. Inside of the truck, I located a purple book bag. Inside of the book bag I located approximately 1.5 pounds of marijuana. The was vacuum sealed. I also located a digitalcscale commonly used for the weighing of illegal narcotics inside of the book bag. I located approximately 20 small bags commonly used for the individual sale of illegal narcotics in the glove box. Interview with Driver: Mr. Lee was read his MirandaRights and stated that he would speak without an attorney present. I asked Mr. Lee about the and he did not acknowledge it. While speaking with Mr. Lee, I detected the strong odor of coming from his person, Mr. Lee also had bloodshot eyes. I asked M r. Lee when he last smoked and he stated, "This morning and all day since." There was a cigarette in the driver's cup holder that was lit and warm to the touch. I read Mr. Lee the Georgia Implied Consent Notice For Suspects Age 21 Or Over and requested a blood withdraw. M.r Lee consented to the blood test and was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical for the test. RN Emery Adams performed the blood withdrawal. Interview with Front Passenger: All of the occupants that fled from the vehicle were located and brought to the final scene. I spoke with the front seat passenger, M.r Kieth Morgan, and read him his Miranda Rights and he stated that he did not wish to speak without an attorney present. I spoke with the remaining occupants of the vehicle and they stated that they did not know about the and that it did not belong to them. Based on the amount of , the packaging, the scale, and the individual bags, Mr. Lee and Mr. Morgan were charged with Possession of with the Intent to Distribute. S C Thompson was dispatched to the scene and assumed command of the crash reports. Mr. Lee and Mr.Morgan were transported to the Troup County Jail and booked in without further incident.
