House of the Rising Sun, an old tune with many versions. I spent several weeks humming it all over town. One morning I laid there with the window open, half awake, and I heard a strange sound in the distance, angel music that tinkled and pinged like a symphony from a hill, or that's what I thought. The sound of a madman pounding piano keys. It felt as if it was a haunting in clear day. I jumped out of bed and ran around to listen out the windows. And then, I heard it morph into, "House of the Rising Sun." Someone had it turned up full blast in the bright summer morning. It echoed and rang through the air. And that was it. When the song ended there was no other music. Only that. And I thought, how strange I'd hummed it all over and up and down grocery store aisles in in homes. And suddenly, there it was blaring out back at me. It made me wonder if we hum all over out in public, if the vibration soaks in and people can hear it all over, and if the sound comes back. And I also know that each town has a song they like over and over more than others. Who knows why, but everyone wants it and everyone has to play it. The last place was, "Angel of Montgomery." Maybe, this, place is, "House of the Rising Sun." It would make sense if that is this place's song.
