Just beside the stream there are the cottages of Shivakhola Adventure Camp. Staying there, one will be thrilled by the serenity and calmness of the place. The greenery all around will be soothing for the eyes, the sound of the flowing river day and night, along with the birds’ chirping, will be just like sweet music to the ears. This summer ours was a small escape to the hills from the scorching heat of the plains. After visiting Kurseong, our next destination was Shivakhola. Our stay was at Shivakhola Adventure Camp. These days Shivakhola-Rongtong circuit has become popular among the bird watchers and photographers. On a short birding tour we could manage to see few birds like Green billed Malkoha, Crested Serpent Eagle, Black Crested Bulbul, Serpent Crested Kingfisher, Blue Whisting Thrush, Laufhing Thrush, Leaf Bird, Crimson Sunbird. The view of tea gardens in the mountain slopes at the lower altitude of Darjeeling Himalaya is so beautiful that sometimes, the famous Munnar looks overhyped in comparison to the virgin beauty of this area. On way back to NJP we visited Rongtong p the lazy nostalgic railway station of toy train.
