The Challenges and Opportunities of Gen Z | Terence Lewis | TEDxYouth@LPHS

Every generation develops certain characteristics, at least partly in response to the historical events of its time. Generation Z is no exception. Born just before or soon after 9/11, awakened to childhood consciousness during the Great Recession of 2008, and now coming of age in a time of a pandemic, the Gen Z have had a remarkably complex journey. They have lived in an advanced technological world and know how to navigate them easily. The challenge for Gen Z in a world of hyper activity and multiplicity of choices is staying focused and avoiding distractions. In contrast to millennials and Gen X (their parents) they struggle with a life that is overwhelmed with choices and the social media that threatens to rob their sanity n perception of reality with its comparison to the influencer-celeb culture of likes and need for validation from a faceless community. My talk will address these issues and how to handle them. Finding ways to be genuine, authentic and owning your individuality as opposed to trying to fit into a world that is consumeristic and constantly visually stimulated. Terence Lewis is an Indian dancer and choreographer. He is known for judging the reality dance shows ‘Dance India Dance’ and ‘Nach Baliye’ He runs his "Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company" in Mumbai and holds dance workshops both in India and abroad.
