Composite manufacturers are facing increasing scrutiny related to the sustainability of their products and their end-of-life options. This is why many of the industry players are interested in natural fiber composites (NFC), however our unfamiliarity with this newcomer to the composite industry is preventing its wide use. Therefore, the purpose of this webinar is to bridge this gap and provide a practical guide on the industrial utilization of NFC. Learning outcomes: • NFC market status and commercial applications • Barriers to the diffusion of NFC in mass markets • Toolbox of natural fiber reinforcements • Library of textile preforms for natural fiber reinforcements • Compatible resin systems • Important considerations before consolidation • Industrial fabrication techniques of NFC • Future trends Biography: Dr. Mohamad Midani is Assistant Professor at the Materials Engineering Department, German University Cairo and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Wilson College of Textiles, North Carolina State University. He is also the Managing Partner of Intexive consulting and Member of the Advisory Board of Middle East Company for Textiles. Dr. Midani’s research mostly focuses on natural fibers and their composites, as well as sustainable product development, circular bioeconomy and biorefineries. He is one of the co-inventors of PalmFil fiber technology, which is the world’s first textile fiber and reinforcement extracted from the byproducts of pruning of date palms. Dr. Midani has his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Ain Shams University, MT in Textiles Technology and Management, and Ph.D. in Fiber and Polymer Science from NC State University. Dr. Midani is a certified New Product Development Professional (NPDP) and a member of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA).
