Part 5: DIY Sandblasting Stone Memorials | 12 Mil Vinyl Stencil Test

I had OK luck with 7 mil mylar stencils but I had to adhere it to the marble myself using 3M Spray 77. This takes extra time and requires you to clean the adhesive off the stone with a strong solvent afterwards, prior to painting. Headstone companies use adhesive-backed rubber as a stencil material, which is not cheap, and works best with large lettering. I decided to try to find an adhesive backed vinyl, and found some that was 12 mil and about $2.50 per square foot (vs. $1 per square foot for the 7 mil mylar material). The hope was that it would stand-up to the sandblasting and not require the extra adhesive or cleaning steps. This video covers a test of this material using marble.
