Tom Doorley, a Master Flautist, is a member of the acclaimed Irish traditional music group Danú. In his TEDxUCD talk, Tom shares some stories of his musical journey, from Ireland to Canada, and around the world. He also performs some traditional Irish tunes on the flute and reflects on how lucky he has been, to be free to share his love of music with the world and the next generation. Speaker Profile Following many years on the road touring, Tom is now involved in musical education as a secondary school teacher and as a third level lecturer for the Dublin Institute of Technology conservatory of music and drama. In the past few years Tom has been establishing himself as a composer and conductor. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
