My name is Adelina and I'm a native bilingual Irish English/ European Portuguese speaker. I'm a self-thought tutor of Portuguese for foreigners and I make video lessons about grammar, colloquialisms, pronunciation, and Portuguese culture. I'm not a trained linguist nor am I an expert in Portuguese phonetics but it's a subject that speaks to me quite literally. Portuguese is a stress-time language and so many people struggle with understanding Portuguese when it's spoken to them or wonder why people will switch to English because they see you struggle with the pronunciation when YOU are trying to speak. I colour code my onscreen subtitles with green to represent phonetic "links" and how certain words string together in a sentence. I use the colour red to represent either a letter cancellation or suppression (usually a vowel). Sometimes the colour blue makes an appearance to represent either sound that is phonetically added or to represent subtitles in English. I offer you my views on pronunciation through the eyes and ears of someone who went through the process of learning Portuguese myself as a foreigner (albeit when I was very young). I have a huge interest in this subject and I'm always trying to learn more and improve my knowledge on it. My pronunciation videos are examples of fast, colloquial, and most of the time, informal speech.
