SHIKWA - Famous Urdu Poem by ALLAMA IQBAL - With Urdu Subtitles/Lyrics

Shikwa by Allama Iqbal (With Subtitles/Lyrics) Famous Urdu Poetry of Shayar-e-Mashriq (Poet of the East) Allama Muhammad Iqbal Nazm: Shikwa (THE COMPLAINT) Recitation: Raheel Farooq شکوہ - علامہ اقبالؔ کی مشہور اردو نظم شاعرِ مشرق کی اردو شاعری نظم: شکوہ شاعر: علامہ محمد اقبالؔ --------- SHIKWA Shikwa, meaning " The Complaint," is a significant poem written by Dr. Sir Muhammad Iqbal, who was a philosopher, poet, and politician in the early 1900s. During that time, Indian Muslims were suffering under British rule and losing their national identity. Iqbal and other influential figures worked hard to fight for the rights and upliftment of Muslims in India. Shikwa consists of 31 stanzas, each with six verses. Iqbal recited it in April 1911 at a gathering in Lahore, where it deeply resonated with the oppressed Muslim community. The poem was widely published and expresses the grievances and aspirations of the Muslim ummah, making it a unique complaint to God. The poem begins by praising the glorious past of Muslims, highlighting their achievements as leaders and teachers. It questions why Muslims, who were once fearless warriors and contributors to society, have become deprived and marginalized. The second part of the poem portrays the decline of the Muslim nation, but it also inspires readers with renewed vigor and courage to face challenges and confront rival forces. The third part of Shikwah directly complains to God, expressing frustrations and disappointments. Iqbal questions why Muslims have lost their former glories and blessings, emphasizing their past loyalty and devotion. In the fourth part, Iqbal presents himself as a nightingale in a garden, praying and expressing heartfelt sentiments. These verses evoke hope and call Muslims to action, urging them to realize their potential and transform their destiny. A year later, Iqbal presented Jawab-e-Shikwa, the "Response to the Complaint," in 1913. This poem acted as a call from God and further ignited the passion and determination of the Indian Muslim community. It encouraged unity and eventually led to independence. Iqbal's poems, especially Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa, continue to resonate with readers due to their poetic beauty and powerful messages. They evoke a sense of pride, resilience, and determination in the face of adversity. These poems are an integral part of Iqbal's legacy, reflecting his profound impact as a poet and philosopher in shaping the destiny of the Muslim ummah. --------- ALLAMA MUHAMMAD IQBAL Allama Iqbal was a famous writer, poet, philosopher, scholar, and politician from South Asia.
