Farrell (electronics, samples) Connectome 5b: neveroddoreven explores the impact of afflictions such as Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on a person’s memory and perception of reality. This is a portrait of a mind aware that something is wrong, fighting to maintain control, and losing. Throughout the piece, memories of past experiences become intertwined in virtual realities, resulting in a spectrum of emotions from bliss to terror. Musical mazes and palindromes, augmented and diminished fractals, and distorted quotes from previous compositions electronically manipulated, as well as audio samples of a variety of means of recording in varying states of action or destruction, such as the sound of melting video tape, the clicking and whirring of an 8mm video camera, and a pencil writing paper, are incorporated in the composition. Instruments are sometimes electronically processed and filtered to distort the reality of the authenticity of the performance.
