DOES MARKSMANSHIP MATTER FOR CQB? A DISCUSSION ON SPEED AND ACCURACY AT CQB DISTANCES

It’s very obvious that marksmanship and speed of delivery are extremely important in a close quarters engagement. Anyone that says otherwise or uses “combat accuracy” or “slow is smooth” is lying to themselves. Some teams say inside 25yds is close quarters. Some say inside 100yds. Either way, solid fundamentals and a good understanding of your weapon system and how it interfaces with your body during various situations is critical. For example, shooting 8 feet across a room while compressed over the shoulder conducting a rapid pan will look and feel very different than standing in an ideal stance with the weapon in your shoulder pocket at 25 yards, with no other environmental or mission factors that affect your abilities. To that end, we show both static doubles drills at the 25 and entry drills at ~5 yards (WITHOUT SHOULDER COMPRESSION), and Blake talks through them all from an instructional point of view. If you’re missing the target entirely at 25 yards, you probably shouldn’t even be discussing rifle fundamentals and the ability to utilize the weapon system within CQB distance.
