zero error and its correction in screw gauge| class 9 physics. How zero error is produced in the screw gauge and how it is corrected finally. Types of zero error are positive zero error and negative zero error. zero error and its correction in the screw gauge is discussed in detail in this lecture. My name is Muhammad Nazir and this is my channel ''Lectures of Physics". This channel contains lectures of physics on class 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th in easy way. This video is about zero error and its correction in screw gauge class 9 physics. Question What is meant by zero error of a screw gauge? Solution On bringing the flat end of the screw in contact with the stud, the zero mark of the circular scale coincides with the zero mark on the base line of the main scale, the instrument is said to be free from zero error. Otherwise, an error is said to be there. This can be both positive and negative zero error. This must be accounted while making the calculations. ZERO ERRORS IN A SCREW GAUGE To find the zero errors of any screw gauge, the thimble is turned with the objective that the spindle progresses toward the Anvil. At first the screw of the Circular/Head scale is gone to connect with the Anvil, so the level completion (level finish) of the screw contacts the Anvil and further it is checked by turning the ratchet. Screw gauge-Zero error NO ZERO ERROR On the off chance that the zero of the circular scale (Head scale) precisely matches (exactly coincides) with the zero of the pitch scale (main scale), then, at that point, the mechanical assembly is said to have no zero error POSITIVE ZERO ERROR In case zero of the Circular/Head scale is under the reference line then the zero error should be positive. Exactly when the zero error is positive, the contrasting zero correction is negative and this value will be deducted from the measured value. NEGATIVE ZERO ERROR If zero of the Head/Circular scale is above the reference line then the error should be negative. Exactly when the error is negative, the looking at zero correction in the device is positive and this value will be added to the measured value. HOW TO MINIMIZE ERRORS IN SCREW GAUGE”? Select a screw gauge that is in good condition. Ensure that the screw gauge is clean and free of dirt. While taking the measurement, hold the screw gauge firmly and steadily. Avoid using too much force while rotating the screw. For accurate measurement take multiple readings and take average out of it. CONCLUSION Zero error of a screw gauge is a systematic error that can be positive, negative. The three different types are mentioned above. The screw gauge errors are mainly due to wear and tear of screw, anvil and other repeated usage of screw gauge parts. The zero error of the screw gauge can be corrected by subtracting the zero error from the measured value. Did you ever check these errors in your school physics laboratory? Procedures to find out the zero correction are as: Zero correction is the error that does not return zero when the instrument is kept at the rest. Also, say that zero error is the calculation that removes the zero error to get an error-free result. The zero correction uses a screw gauge which has a circular scale and the main scale. On the main scale, there is a reference line. The circular scale of the screw gauge is rotated to maximum capacity and if the reference line on the main scale coincides with the zero of the circular scale there is no error on the screw gauge. If the zero on the circular scale is below the reference line then the error is positive. If the zero on the reference line is above the reference line then the error is negative. Therefore zero correction can be done by adding the same number of the zero error but with the opposite sign. For more amazing lectures please subscribe our channel.
