The goal is to help establish your access to the best scales that are also highly functional and work to provide perfectly aligned notes. The scale patterns here will be similar to those used in some of the most famous songs performed by; Chet Atkins and Eric Clapton in many of their hits. We will get started with an acoustic jam. After that we’ll learn an easy to follow scale method for playing the best sounds. Later, we will apply everything into a guitar solo performed on nylon string acoustic guitar. It is important to make sure you learn 3 things about playing a solo on acoustic guitar. The first is more or less a universal concept in how every solo you set out to play should be preceded by your analysis and understanding of the solos backing chord changes. For this reason, we will start this lesson by studying the acoustic guitar backing riff, (this is the solos foundation). The second idea is all about the way we end up selecting, formatting and practicing scale patterns on acoustic guitar. Keep in mind, we do not have a lot of upper-neck fret access on acoustic guitar so it is important to establish scale patterns either up to, or just under, the 12th fret. Finally, (as, I have said many times before), it is important to “compose” worked out phrases before you start to perform random improvisations of any solos.
