High above Laxey sits a monument to the Industrial Revolution and the Mining Industry across the Island. The Great Laxey Wheel or Lady Isabella was built in 1854 to pump water out of one of the deepest Mine shafts of the Great Laxey Mines. Its success shaped Laxey and reminders of this time are all around the village. It stands as one of the iconic attractions of the Isle of Man and still runs today, and as per years before, you can visit the wheel courtesy of Manx National Heritage, and learn more about the mining industry of the time.
