When using Postural Restoration to help people with chronic pain, the most frequently asked question I receive is "how long does it take to feel better?" I usually reply that it'll take a month or two but that under most circumstances you should feel better before that. However, a more complete answer, albeit a rather abstract response, can be this: "how threatened does your brain feel?" Pain is a way for your brain to change your behavior. It tells you that something is wrong. Idiopathic pain, pain of unknown origin, is usually an indication that your body can't move properly from side-to-side. A body that can't move from side-to-side is a threat, because it means that a body is unstable, and the pelvis is unstable and that means you are under threat of falling. To decrease your brain's sense of threat, you must stabilize your pelvis. That's why pelvic stabilization is so central to Postural Restoration. Hey there, my name is Neal Hallinan.
