I was in North Carolina for work and had a bad travel schedule that worked in my favor. With about 26 hours to my own devices, I found time to visit Pinehurst before making my way to Sanford, North Carolina to play at Tobacco Road. Tobacco Road golf course is currently ranked as the #49 public course in the US and #10 hardest. The Mike Stranz design on land that had been a tobacco farm and then sand quarry is a benchmark for its impressive visuals and extreme mix of manmade landforms and natural Carolina beauty. I brought something approaching my A game and managed to keep it under bogey ball. With this round accounted-for, I slipped under a 10 handicap for the first time in about 3 years. The swing work I've gotten in the garage and the lessons this spring from coach Tom Gees set me up for some success and I can't wait to get back out there.
