The Agroecology Fund is excited to host the African Learning Exchange on Agroecology Economies from Sept 13-19th in Harare, Zimbabwe. Together with representatives from smallholder farmer communities, NGO’s, academia, governments, and civil society from all across Africa, we will gather in person to exchange ideas about critical food system challenges and potential agroecological solutions that center food sovereignty and economic sustainability in Africa. The gathering starts on the 13th with a visit to the two-day Zimbabwe Good Seed and Food Festival created by PELUM Zimbabwe. This year’s theme, “Celebrating the Diversity and Resilience of Zimbabwe’s Foods,” highlights the importance of promoting local, climate-adapted crops and farmer-managed seed systems as key solutions to Zimbabwe’s dual challenges of undernutrition and rising obesity rates. The festival will feature seed exchanges, cooking demonstrations, and a vibrant marketplace showcasing traditional grains, indigenous fruits, vegetables, and more. It aims to reconnect farmers, consumers, and private sector stakeholders, promoting market linkages that extend beyond the festival.
