The Osage orange 🍊 (Maclura pomifera) is commonly called "monkey balls." While it is not eaten by people, It does have uses. A fun one is that it can ward off spiders if you bring it into your home. In the old days it was used as hedgerows for farm animals. The wood is spectacular and can fetch a decent price being sold as blocks to wood carvers and luthiers. Some creative forest farmers are even exploring the development of the sticky latex inside the fruit.
